How to Make Your Lash Extensions Last Longer
You just walked out of Olivor Lash with a fresh set and you're absolutely obsessed. Now the question is — how do you keep them looking this good for as long as possible?
The truth is, how long your lash extensions last has a lot to do with how you care for them at home. Here are our top tips straight from our licensed lash artists.
1. Keep Them Dry for the First 24–48 Hours This is the most important rule. Your lash adhesive needs time to fully cure, and water, steam, or sweat during that window can weaken the bond. Avoid washing your face directly, sweating heavily, or spending time in a steamy shower right after your appointment.
2. Clean Your Lashes Regularly This surprises a lot of clients — but cleaning your lashes actually makes them last longer. Oil, makeup residue, and buildup break down the adhesive over time. Use a gentle, oil-free lash cleanser and a soft brush 2–3 times a week to keep them fresh and healthy.
3. Avoid Oil-Based Products Around Your Eyes Oil is the enemy of lash glue. Check your skincare and makeup products — if anything near your eye area contains oil, it could be shortening the life of your extensions. Switch to oil-free makeup remover, moisturizer, and cleanser around the eye area.
4. Sleep on Your Back or Use a Silk Pillowcase Sleeping face-down crushes your lashes against the pillow all night — not great for retention. If you're a side or stomach sleeper, a silk pillowcase creates far less friction than cotton and will help your lashes hold up overnight.
5. Don't Pick or Pull We know it's tempting when a lash starts to twist or feel loose — but picking at your extensions can pull out your natural lashes too, causing damage that takes months to recover from. If something feels off, come see us and we'll fix it properly.
6. Book Your Fills Every 2–3 Weeks Lash extensions follow the natural growth cycle of your lashes — which means they shed as your natural lashes do. Most clients need a fill every 2–3 weeks to keep their set looking full and fresh. Waiting too long between fills means more work and higher cost to get back to full.
7. Brush Them Daily A clean spoolie brush (we'll send you home with one) used gently every morning keeps your lashes looking fluffy and in place. Brush from mid-lash to tip — never from the root.
The Bottom Line Great lash retention starts in the salon with quality products and skilled application — and continues at home with proper aftercare. At Olivor Lash in Tivoli Village, Summerlin, we set every client up with aftercare guidance so your lashes stay beautiful between visits.
